About
This blog will be dedicated primarily to the posting of asana sequences taught in my yoga classes. In Iyengar yoga the month is often broken up into 4 weeks, each week with a different focus. The first week of the month focuses on standing poses, second week is forward extensions, third week is backbends, and the fourth week is restorative poses. I have organized this blog around this system; you can search by category for each type of sequence. All sequences will include more than one type of pose, and many of the sequences include an “awareness” on a specific body part, area or action.
Within each sequence I will try to provide links to pictures and descriptions of each asana. When a link is not available, basic instructions for the pose are given. In some cases I give both, which means I stressed a certain variation of the pose in class. Beginning students will want to focus on the variation I taught, while more experienced students can practice whichever version feels most appropriate for their body on a given day.
Each weekly post includes both a beginner’s sequence and what I’ve termed an “intermediate” sequence. The beginner’s sequence is what was taught in the Monday class at Mountain View Studio. The intermediate sequence is usually a combination of sequences taught in the Tuesday class at Satya Yoga and the Wednesday class at Mountain View. The intermediate sequence builds on the beginner’s sequence, offering a greater number of poses, and often includes more advanced poses (particularly inversions) and variations.
I will also use this blog to post announcements about class cancellations or changes, upcoming events, and other notes of interest to the Iyengar yoga community.
Many thanks for joining me here, and I hope this is a useful tool to help you establish and build your personal practice.
